Liebherr D964 9 liter at Agritechnica
Liebherr will introduce at Agritechnica its new 4-cylinder in-line D964 engine. Nine liters, 300 kW maximum power output and 1,700 Nm at 1,400 rpm make this Stage V compliant engine well suited for use in off-highway applications with frequent load and engine speed variations.
D964 and the full integration
Part of a new generation of engines like the D956 and D966, the new D964 shows a high level of system integration, featuring the ECU3 engine control and the 11.2 common rail system fully developed in house by Liebherr.
The engine architecture is conceived to meet Off-road Oem’s needs. For example, three optional auxiliary outputs enable multiple deployment possibilities, with up to 665 Nm output torque possible on the main auxiliary output.

D964 challenge
The choice of such cylinder configuration is due to Liebherr pursuing an engine family concept. Besides a common interface and common engine parts, reduced engine dimensions prove to be an addition advantage. Agritechnica will showcase other 9 liter engines, including those by Man and FPT in this crowded range, addressed in Hannover to high range tractors. We recently spoke about the 6 cylinders introduced at Conexpo which enrich the Stage V offer, making Liebherr an absolute protagonist in mid-to-high power range for both mobile and stationary industrial applications.

D964 SCRFilter system
Speaking of Stage V Liebherr features its Liebherr SCRFilter system, fully developed in house, containing both a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a SCR-coated particulate filter. Concerning the current emisssion rules, Tier 4 Final, the Liebherr SCRonly system only contains a SCR catalytic converter, making it practically maintenance-free. For markets with emission standards corresponding to Stage IIIA, the engine is fitted with exhaust gas recycling. For all variants, flexibility is shown in taking into account the customer-specific installation situation.
